Respectful and Sustainable Tourism
To ensure that encounters between guests and the local population are positive and respectful for everyone involved, we would like to provide you with some helpful information.
The valley is a rather traditional and rural region. People generally treat each other with great openness and tolerance. At the same time, many locals appreciate it when guests respect local cultural customs and adapt sensitively to the regional context.
We therefore recommend:
- Wearing clothing that covers the shoulders, belly and knees
- Avoiding very short shorts, hot pants, very short skirts, or low-cut tops
- Behaving respectfully and discreetly in public spaces, including regarding displays of affection and kissing
- Asking people for permission before taking their photographs
- Mindfully respecting local traditions, family structures, and religious customs.
These guidelines are not intended as restrictions, but rather as part of conscious and sustainable tourism that promotes mutual well-being, cultural exchange, and harmonious coexistence. Experience has shown that this helps visitors feel more comfortable in the valley and avoid misunderstandings or unwanted attention.
Safety and Infrastructure
The region is generally considered safe and peaceful.
The valley itself has small shops for daily needs and a weekly market with fresh produce.
Please note:
• There are no ATMs in the valley.
• Cash should be withdrawn in Demnate, Azilal, Beni Mellal, or Marrakech.
• Alcohol is not officially served in the valley and is frowned upon socially.
• Warm clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended, especially during the winter months and for hiking.
Visiting campus vivant’e
Campus vivant’e is a social and community-based learning center located in the heart of the valley, featuring a school, community projects, and intercultural encounters. Our campus is part of the traditional rural community, where mutual respect, openness, and mindful interaction play a vital role.
Visitors will enter a vibrant learning environment with children, young people, families, and staff from the region.
We therefore ask all visitors to the campus to dress respectfully and behave considerately. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted on school grounds.
